It would make a great ending to the album in my opinion; John at the end stating he doesnt believe in the myth, meaning and emotional weight surrounding the Beatles, im all for that. Some real shit has been been written and said about the effect that the beatles have had on the world, especially by pretentious arses who write the most boring dry long-word filled essays yet probably only ever listened to Pepper and possibly a greatest hits whilst hoping it would end soon so they can go back to pretending Mozart and Holtz are what they are into.

Think of how Abbey Road finishes (tho I know LIB was released later), with ‘The End ‘, some simple but beautiful lyrics and a solo by each of them. It finishes it well, I think, in a nice way. If the last Beatles album finished with ”don’t believe in Beatles”, it would leave a bad taste in my mouth. That’s just me though.

Agreed. Abbey Road ending with The End is a little upsetting for me, and that’s a happy song. If it ended with “I don’t believe in Beatles,” I think it would be too depressing for me to take.

^^ On one hand it would be a refreshing bit of honesty, but since most fans wouldn’t be of the same thankful-it’s-over mindset, mostly it’d just be douchey.

Even when you think of how LIB ended, that nice Lennon tongue-in-cheek of “I’d like to thank you on behalf of the group and ourselves, and I hope we’ve passed the audition…” Whichever way ’round you look at them, last recorded or last released, you have two nice affectionate sign-offs to their remarkable decade.

Yeah, actually, I never thought of that. I always smile when I hear John say that.
And thanks

If the boys had been able to stick it out for roughly one more year – and one more album – what would be your ideal track listing given what they put out over that period on their own? Here’s mine:
All Things Must Pass (released November or December, 1970):
SIDE ONE:
“What Is Life “
“Another Day “
“Give Me Some Truth”
“Every Night “
“Isolation “
“Let It Down “
“It Don’t Come Easy”
SIDE TWO:
“All Things Must Pass “
“Monkberry Moon Delight “
“Well, Well, Well”
“Look At Me “
“Maybe I’m Amazed “
“Isn’t It A Pity “
Notice John, Paul AND George all have an equal number of contributions. Considering the actual ATMP contains the bulk of George’s best post-Beatles compositions (many of which he wrote while the group was still together, mind you), I’d say this is only fair.
