Quick question: was there always a crackling noise in Revolution 9? Or are my headphones unable to handle the awesome? I'm not talking about the fire sounds around 5:45(ish), but earlier. It doesn't happen throughout the song, so I think that's the way it's supposed to be.

Some examples that have stuck with me:

* The unexpected change in the drum pattern on "I Don't Want to Spoil the Party" during the line "I still love her"; there's a heavy bass drum riff going ...

Some of the songs on the Yellow Submarine songbook CD are stunning and far outstrip the originals - Nowhere Man and Think For Yourself to name but two.

In 1999, revelation. Yellow Submarine was released, and the sound quality was dripping with citric fruitfullness. 'Hey Bulldog' for example, just danced its way around the room rearranging the ornaments. so far, I have bought Please Please Me, With The Beatles and A Hard Days Night. I wanted to only buy each album one at a time, so as to spend some quality time with each one. Today I plan to get Beatles For Sale. So far, I am quite happy with the quality of each album. But, I still plan to buy the mono box set also. I ...

But as innovators, we can forgive them their excess. They used a limited format (By todays standards) and experimented with it, so as to see what was possible. There are many songs from various groups during that period (Psychadelia) which I like. Love's 'Forever Changes,' being a particular favorite. However, all things considered, it was The Beatles who created this particular blue print before they threw it to the four winds.

It's worth remembering that the much-mentioned claim that Sgt Pepper was recorded on four-track isn't entirely true. As I mentioned before, all but one of the songs used reduction mixes, meaning that dozens of layers of sound were used on some of the songs. Strawberry Fields Forever, too, wouldn't have been possible without freeing up many extra tracks and adding new instruments.

Also, by the end of recording A Day In The Life there were two four-track machines running simltaneously - one with The Beatles' music, the other with the orchestra, recorded four times on each of the available tracks. Although ...

Joe, I was intrigued by your comments on mixing. A couple of years ago, I created a number of my own original tracks using what was known as a MTV Music Generator 2, and a four track. I do have musical knowledge. I am perhaps a better acoustic guitar player than anything else. I wouldn't attemp to create a realistic beat using a real drum kit. However, the music generator 2, which has a vast series of musical riffs, sounds of many instruments (All of which I cannot play) did allow me to create very good quality tracks. As you ...

I think the best bang for the buck right now would be Logitech's Duet Squeezebox, although if you are willing to wait until February, Logitech's Touch Squeezebox is even better. Some people like Sonos (a bit pricier), but not me, because Sonos cannot play back high-definition (or high-resolution) music. Moving upward from there, Logitech's Transporter is a good choice, although at $2,000.00 a pop, it is indeed very pricey. Then, you get into the esoteric territory, such as Linn Majik, or even Linn Akurate, which retail for $8,000.00 (yes, you read it right, eight thousand bucks!)

I've listened to them all, ...

Since I last posted on this site, I have purchased both 'Beatles For Sale' and 'Help.' These are, of course, the re-mastered version's. and they both only go to underline just how good The Beatles are. 'Ticket to Ride,' has always been a favorite, but the one thing that I noticed on Help (Re-mastered) is that the whole album seems to have been a step forward in the use of percussion, more so than any previous album. There are little tam fizzes that may start as a quaver at the beginning of each eight bar segmant, and merely be the ...
