I saw a TV advert for the remastered Red/Blue albums last night. I think they'll sell well – they're the perfect Christmas gift for people just getting into The Beatles.

That's why EMI can't put out random compilations like they did for a while in the 70s and 80s (Rock And Roll Music, Love Songs, Reel Music, etc).

It's true that EMI is broke, and run by an odious man, but I think this is an Apple initiative. Look at what they're doing: Beatles remasters, John Lennon reissues, Band On The Run, much of the non-Beatles back catalogue of Apple Records (Mary Hopkin, Badfinger etc), probably George and Ringo to follow (I'm guessing). Most of us fans don't really have a need for the Red and Blue albums, but I think they probably serve a purpose for people starting from scratch.
