I just bought Let it Be … Naked and am anxiously awaiting its delivery! “I’ve got a feeling” I’m going to love it.*
*That was my best pun ever.
First off, yes, I quoted myself.
I just wanted to let everyone know that I got my LIBN in the mail today (!!!) and just gave it a run-through. I like it! I especially like The Long and Winding Road. I was never really fond of that song, but I think I will like it more now through that rendition. It felt weird to listen to the songs without the group’s rambling at the beginning and end! (Rosetta … Rosetta …)

I love Let it Be Naked. My favorite is Across the Universe. And yeah it's weird not listening to their ramblings but you get used to it.

No problem.
(So, Nashville or Vancouver?)
Vancouver! It's been too long since that damn Cup spent a year in Canada (where it belongs!)
(Back on topic before Joe warns us…) A friend of mine who's owned "Live at the Hollywood Bowl" since it was released swears by its live version of "Dizzy Miss Lizzie", says it's far superior to the studio version – which neither of us has ever much cared for. Says it's "rawer" or something…intriguing…I've never heard it myself.

OfflineSince this got a little bit into a debate over "LIBN" (which I DON'T prefer, btw), I'd like to get the thread back on topic, which is talking about rarities, compilations and live albums.
I'm happy to own a CD called "Ticket to ride" with their early 63 gig in Stockholm (the one that spawned some of the songs on Anthology I) and a 65 concert in Paris. I would agree with the ones who call the concert in Stockholm one of their best ever. And it sounds relatively well!
It's really fascinating how the crowd noise gets louder and the boys less enthusiastic in 65! Also funny to listen to Paul, trying to say something in French, but obviously feeling insecure and stupid about it, and then John just takes over with a lot more confidence.
I also have "Live in Japan 66", and it's really a sad album, due to it's poor sound quality – caused partly by the SCREAAAAAAAAMING and the way the boys sound totally devastated, powerless, tired. Paul does his best to energize the crowd for "I'm down" just as he does today, but all in all it's obvious they were DONE with touring at that point.
Still some diamonds there like their backing vocals on "If I needed someone".
As for compilations, apart from a "20 golden greats" best of my introduction to the Beatles was a tape made from the LP "Beatles – The world's best", containing much of Rubber Soul plus highlights from Beatles for Sale and Revolver.
I listened to that tape soooooo often, especially on headphones, and that's why I was so disappointed with later CDs, since they didn't sound as well on headphones as the album or tape did.
Anyone familiar with the mentioned album(s)?
I'm not. I always thought the Japanese fans were really polite and didn't scream through the songs. Maybe that was only at some of the shows. I'd read that it exposed how poor The Beatles had become as live musicians, after years of not being able to hear themselves play.

OfflineTo me, this thread is fascinating. I never really knew how much of this stuff was out there because I never really looked. Now that I have all of the mainstream Beatles releases that I care to have (yeah, right), it will be fun digging and sifting through the so-called rarities.
Von, thanks for the correction on the previous page. That's quite the warning; especially when I consider you to be one of the more open minded listeners among us.
paulsbass – I value your reviews as well – thanks!
Now I just have to go out and find it while managing to avoid jail time *cough*Joe*cough*.
Thanks to everyone for your input.
To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.

Here's a link to the German Amazon, for the "Ticket to ride" CD.

And that's the "Live in Japan" CD, though I didn't pay 17 Euros back then…

Amazingly, during a band version of "Yesterday" the crowd is relatively quiet – for the only time…
Here's the tracklist for the "Beatles – the world's best" LP
Seite 1:
Good Day Sunshine, All My Loving, Eight Days A Week, No Reply, Rock And Roll Music, A Hard Days Night, I Should Have Know Better, And I Love Her
Seite 2:
Things We Said Today, Michelle, Dr. Robert, Yellow Submarine, If I Feel, And Your Bird Can Sing, Girl, Eleanor Rigby
Damn, that was a great collection!

Well, I finally got the Decca tapes downloaded. I have them on my computer, but I haven't listened yet.
I am anxious to hear what you think! I’m still considering them, just because I hate thinking that there are Beatles recordings out there that I have never heard.
I’m resisting the tempation to torrent things … So far.

OfflineI simply took the decca tapes from youtube, they are ok but nothing to get excited about. The band sounds like its going thru the motions, probably dismayed at the material they had to play. No doubt they would have played it all in hamburg but im sure they knew it wasnt their best stuff. Plus they werent at one with the surroundings and were nervous. No surprise that Decca rejected them.
If youre going for the star club tapes avoid everything apart from the purple chick bootleg release. Its the best sounding and most complete release so far. I found them very enjoyable. Instead of sounding like you're 2 houses down the road and theyre in the basement with all the windows and doors closed it now sounds like youre outside with the front door closed and theyre playing in the back room. The band really rock.

OfflineI've got one cassette with Tony Sheridan.
And One cassete with Greatest hits vol. 1
And the vinyl's Love Songs and Rock 'n' Roll Music vol. 1.
Actually, I don't collect Rarities and compliations etc…
Beacause I'm waiting 'till I've got all the studio albums.
BTW I know someone who's got all Beatles records that is friend with the local recordshop (vinyls, CD, Singles etc.) owner.
And the best thing is that the record shop owner could order any record for
!!!
(He's so awesome…
