1. Revolver – They discovered new toys (recording techniques) and put them to proper use on this album. Not too little, not too much – just right.

2. Abbey Road – I live in Maine where we have long cold winters – any album with a song named Here Comes The Sun is OK with me. I agree with MadiYasha – it has summer feel to it.

3. With the Beatles – How can you play this in your car and not sing along with every song? Plus, it has one of my favorite covers; You Really Got A Hold On Me.

4. A Hard Day's NightThis could have easily been my number 3. Lennon/McCartney grew up in a hurry in regard to songwriting.

5. The Beatles – If I were asked to pick only one album to have on a deserted island I would pick this one – because it has the most songs. It would be my luck that there would be no electricity, however.

6. Help! – The Dylan influence started on Beatles for Sale, but truly took flight on this one.

7. Magical Mystery TourStrawberry Fields Forever, I Am The Walrus, All You Need Is Love. Wow, how did this make it to only 7th place on my list?

8. Please Please Me - One, two, three, four! Every time I play this one I think "one day – they did it in one day!"

9. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band – Way ahead of it's time. Not any more. A Day In The Life - a masterpiece. Being for the Benefit of Mr. Kite – one of my favorite songs to sing along with, but way overproduced (even though you can smell the sawdust!). Within You Without You has fantastic lyrics (I really enjoy singing them to the instrumental version on Anthology).  The rest is ordinary at best. I have my brass undies on, so let the beatings commence – I can take it.

10. Beatles for Sale - This one had to go somewhere on the list, so I put it here. I agree with Joe that it was somewhat of a let down after hearing all originals on A Hard Day's Night. That being said, Kansas City/Hey, Hey, Hey, Hey is my favorite cover. Also love Baby's In Black. If not for Mr. Moonlight this may have been ranked higher.

11. Rubber SoulSome all time greats on here. Unfortunately some of my least favorites as well.

12. Let it Be - Contrary to most people, I actually like this album – a lot (sans The Long and Boring Song). It just makes me a bit melancholy when I think of the break up on film bit.

13. Yellow Submarine – There is nothing wrong with this album – I just ran out of numbers.

I despise the order of my list! All of the albums are interchangeable, I see that now…

I'm doing this for my own sanity- ignore my previous list!
a-hard-days-night-john-6

1. The White Album
2. Revolver
3. Abbey Road
4. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Heart's Club Band
5. Rubber Soul
6. Beatles for Sale
7. A Hard Day's Night
9. Please Please Me
10. Magical Mystery Tour
11. Yellow Submarine
12. With the Beatles
13. Let it Be

-pant, pant- That seems about right. I think last time I was determined to not like Abbey Road… now that I'm back from the asylum, I've mended my ways!

I think the order of all our lists can change daily, it's just too hard of a question! I'm listening to Revolver right now and saying to myself, 'I only had this ranked at #5?'

Ok. I have really tried hard to post in here to rank the albums.. but it's just .. just impossible. I can't choose a favorite. I'll do my best and write something this weekend.

I can say however without hesitation my favorite line-up : Taxman, Eleanor Rigby and I'm Only Sleeping, Love You To, Here There And Everywhere and Yellow Submarine. I can listen to them in a row everyday.

So that makes Revolver my number 1 album I guess..

Revolver is my favorite, and I wrote a really long-winded diatribe about why I think it's their best album.

Please Please Me is probably second on the list, because it's so full of zip and spark and live-sound energy.

Let it Be is third, with this very important clarification: I'm talking about the "Naked" album.

Beatles for Sale is fourth, because I absolutely love the vocal harmonies on this album – "Eight Days A Week", "I Don't Want To Spoil The Party", "Words Of Love", "Baby's In Black", "No Reply" – I think this is John and Paul at their "duo best".

Honestly, after that, it's a grab-bag of interchangeability.

Not a bit like Cagney.

The Ranks (subject to change):

1. The Beatles (White Album) This album has so many great songs (like Revolution 1, Happiness Is A Warm Gun, Helter Skelter, Back in the U. S. S. R.). I there isn't really a song on this album I don't like! I even like Revolution 9! Of course, too much of that song may cause temporary loss of sanity.

2. Revolver This album makes it's way to number two because of how different it is from the other albums. I love songs like Love You To, She Said She Said, Good Day Sunshine, Tomorrow Never Knows, Doctor Robert, etc. I like Yellow Submarine (to a certain extent) despite what everyone else thinks. BUT, it is really annoying! On the brightside, this is #1 on the Vatican's top albums list! Can't argue with that (sarcasm)!

3 Abbey Road Octopus Garden, Oh! Darling, Come Together, Because, Something, "The Medley!" This album has one of the best line-ups I've ever heard from an album! I find that the only downside is Her Majesty and the length of I Want You (She's So Heavy). Don't get me wrong, it's a great song, I just wouldn't mind if it were 30-45 seconds shorter! Plus I love the symbolism of The End! It was the last song they ever recorded together, thus signatying, "The End" to their reign.

4. Rubber Soul BEEP BEEP MM BEEP BEEP YEAH! I love this album from start to finish. Well, not really, I find some songs are lacking compared to the rest. I do like Drive My Car, Nowhere Man, I'm Looking Through You, In My Life, Norwegian Wood (The Sitar is awesome! What can I say?) I also connect with a lot of these songs like Nowhere Man and I'm Looking Through You. Moving on.

5. Magical Mystery Tour I feel that there isn't enough love for this album. I understand no one really liked the movie too much (I have yet to see it, it's on my to watch list along with Sweeny Todd) but this album has some of their best songs. It does, like many other albums, does have it's weak spots (i.e. Flying, Baby You're A Rich Man) but it also contains All You Need Is Love, I Am The Walrus, Strawberry Fields Forever, Magical Mystery Tour, etc. I also like the eeriness of Blue Jay Way and Your Mother Should Know (is it just me or does anyone else think of marienettes dancing along to that song but really well blocked). Plus, this album has the first Beatles song I ever heard!

6. Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band This album may be the best album ever, but everyone has their own opinions, right? This is a great album and all but it's not my favourite. It is a landmark in the history of rock because The Beatles stopped touring after this so they made it a concert on record. Of course, there are a few slow parts like Fixing A Hole, She's Leaving Home, and WALHFMF but even those are decent and worth lisentening to.  I absolutly love Within You Without You and Being For The Benefit of Mr. Kite and I'm learning Lucy In The Sky With Diamonds as my first song on guitar.

7. Let It Be I love the songs on this album! Two of Us, Across The Universe, For You Blue, Let It Be, Get Back, I Me Mine. A lot of these songs (Let It Be, I Me Mine, Across The Universe) still ring true today! There are maybe two songs I don't like on it (One After 909 and Maggie Mae) but other than that, one of their best. In fact! This will probably move up in the ranks as soon as I finish this list!

8. Help! One of my favourite movies of all time! I love the music from the movies as well as the rest of the songs on this cd (except maybe It's Only Love). This song has a lot of great songs but just don't stand up to the rest as well. (This was moved down from the #7 spot because I listened to Across The Universe while making the list).

9. Beatles For Sale Lot's of great covers on this album along with a lot of great original songs. A few highlights include Rock And Roll Music, What You're Doing, Eight Days A Week, and a few others. Not too many of these songs are that great but the ones that are make up for it!

10. With The Beatles I love this album! Especially "All My Loving." I used it in an audition for Little Shop of Horrors and got in to the show (I later quit because I wanted to learn the more technical aspect of theatre after over 3 years of acting). I also love Please Mister Postman, Money (That's What I Want), and many more. Unfortunately, none are all that great.

11. Please Please Me First ever Lennon-McCartney song in I Saw Her Standing There makes this album. I also love Please Please Me, Anna (Go To Him), Baby It's You (found a wonderful parody on youtube!), an Twist & Shout. There are other excellent songs but they don't stack up (much like the songs on With The Beatles)

12. A Hard Day's Night It's been A Hard Day's Night, and I've got really really bored. This has 4 songs that are (at the least) good. They are If I Fell, A Hard Day's Night, Can't Buy Me Love, and You Can't Do That. I yawn at the rest!

13. Yellow Submarine I love Hey Bulldog! I love All Together Now! I love It's All Too Much! I love It's Only A Northern Song! I love All You Need Is Love! I also like the orchestra version of Yellow Submarine! But four original songs, two from different albums, and a bunch of orchesta pieces doesn't say "Awesome Pop Rock Album!" It says "Good One!"

Those are my rankings. Let me put this blindfold on before you open fire. Ok guys! It's on. FIRE!

You find A Hard Day's Night boring? Wow. I really love that album – it's by far my favourite early Beatles LP. I don't think there's a bad song on there.

I don't know why, but I found "If I fell" to be a little bland. Don't know why everyone likes it so much.

Well, I like it because the vocal harmonies are exquisite…some of the best ever by the Beatles or any group.

Also, why all the Beatles for Sale hate? Every song on that album is amazing. George's vocal on Everybody's Trying To Be My Baby is simply stellar.

Hate is a strong word, but your comment made me take another look at my own ranking. I really enjoy the album on its own merit. On any give day, my ranking of the albums can change. As a matter of fact, my favorite album today is With the Beatles. It Won't Be Long is a fantastic way to start an album!

I think the only reason I listed Beatles for Sale as 10th is due to the reverting back to 6 cover songs after putting out an album with all originals (A Hard Days Night). If this was their 3rd album and AHDN was the 4th, this would not have been an issue for me.

I really enjoy looking at everyone's lists and rationales. I found it puzzling that someone listed AHDN near the bottom and I'm sure others found it puzzling that I listed Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band 9th.

That's what I like about threads like this one – no wrong answers.

To the fountain of perpetual mirth, Let it roll for all its worth.
