I've noticed recently that many companies who make Beatles merchandise have censored the cigarette in Paul's hand on the cover. They either photoshop it out completely or blur it. Are people that concerned that the cigarette markets to children? When I look at it it doesn't make me want a cigarette or pick up smoking. a-hard-days-night-ringo-7

Good Dog Nigel. Arf, Arf, he goes, a merry sight. Our little hairy friend. Arf, Arf, upon the lampost bright, arfing around the bend. Nice dog! Goo boy, waggie tail and beg. Clever Nigel, jump for joy Because we're putting you to sleep at three of the clock, Nigel. -John Lennon "In His Own Write"

I can't even see it on an CD unless I look really hard, let alone on an iPod screen

Here is more information on this topic:  http://onabbeyroad.com/news0616.htm   I wonder if next they will digitally replace Lennon's voice on  "I Am The Walrus," singing "…choking smokers"… or "I'm So Tired," with the nasty line "I'll have another cigarette." At least they'll probably keep the "stupid git" dig at Sir Walter Raleigh. ;-)

If they censor anything in I Am The Walrus, it'll be "Pornographic preistes…let your knickers down"

BBC article on the removal of Paul's cigarette from Abbey Road by US Poster companies and "The move was made without the permission of either McCartney or Apple Records, which owns the rights to the image.".

Was a cigarette edited out of the Real Love cover? I have a memory recall of that happening, i think Ringo had it (note: yeah it was. A google search brings up an article on it, sadly the pictures have gone – will try and find the original).

So its fine for Apple to do it.a-hard-days-night-paul-3

I can see it now: the politically-correct police will soon be digitally altering all pop music references to cigarettes. McCartney's line in "A Day In The Life" will get changed, from "I went downstairs and had a smoke, and somebody spoke…" to "I went downstairs and baked some bread, and somebody said"…

Man, and I thought I was being satirical when I invented a similar story here back on April Fool's.

One day, a tape-op got a tape on backwards, he went to play it, and it was all "Neeeradno-undowarrroom" and it was "Wow! Sounds Indian!" -- Paul McCartney

I remember reading about this earlier too.  I think it's ridiculous, personally.  Seeing someone with a cigarette is not going to start a kid smoking…besides why mess with historical photo's?!
