Thanks for that mmm. I love a good piece of love-writing about my darling Beatles.

As it said in the article, ‘I think I’ll go listen to it again.’

I read that a while ago and considered whether or not to post……..

He said some good stuff particularly at the end about how fresh it STILL sounds……It does! And his love comes through clear and strong……..

But I thought some of the little inaccuracies……like the order of the guitar solos in ‘The End ‘ and his straining to link all the songs into some cohesive narrative might annoy the connoisseurs who get upset when a book, or Beatles’ documentary is in the slightest error.

I was wrong to worry.

Thanks for posting MMM.

I can never remember the order of the guitar solos.

I always recognise John’s parts but get Paul and George mixed up in a couple of rounds. Its Paul George John, right?

I find it to be one of those little things that the Beatles would do to just add their little bit of confusion or difference from the rest.

I think it’s their way of lightening the mood of that big dramatic finale a bit. Sure, it spoils the ending, but that’s part of the fun. A bit of a joke to keep things from getting too heavy.

There was no Beatles thought behind it.

Her Majesty ‘ was added to the end of the tape reel by an engineer as he was taught not to throw anything away after it had been cut out of the original medley order. Paul heard it, liked the surprise, and decided to keep it.

A quirk of unplanned life that worked far better than anyone could have thought up.

Does it bother anybody else that this album was released before Let It Be even though it was recorded last? Because it really bothers me.a-hard-days-night-ringo-14a-hard-days-night-ringo-14a-hard-days-night-ringo-14

Personally I prefer the idea of it being chance than some stuffy arty-farty we’re so clever plan by the four. That’s not my Beatles.

Never gave it any thought. Provides a great basis for an argument tho when people who think they know everything claim it was the last recorded and released Beatles album. a-hard-days-night-paul-11

Nah. I was too young a the time to realize what went down, so the history is fine with me.  Matter of fact if nobody told me Let It Be  was a Phil Spector LP, I wouldn’t have been the wiser! a-hard-days-night-ringo-13

Good question.

It doesn’t bother me at all. It’s almost as if Let It Be is the first bootleg Beatles album, only it was officially released.

There is something pleasing in the knowledge that they wanted to put out something better in Abbey Road , because they knew LIB was not really completed/produced to their normally high standards.

Yes, I know what John said about wanting LIB to go out “warts and all” in order to show the Fabs with their pants down (paraphrasing), but I always took those comments with a grain of salt considering how cynical and bitter John had become about the whole Beatles experience around the time of the quote.

Wasnt the pants down quote from John said when he was going thru his all production that goes above someone twiddling a knob for 3 seconds is garbage and false stage; a period of time running parallel with his bitter, cynical, annoyed, angry Beatles were all sellouts?

…and every other Beatles song he ever wrote was a throwaway. Yep, that’s the stage he was going through all right.

And recorded badly by everyone deliberately because of them hating Yoko, even before she came into the Beatles story.

I always had it in my head the idea that The Beatles knew while they were making Abbey Road that it was their last album. That was until I saw the following dates on Beatles Bible history:

22nd Feb 1969  Abbey Rd recording commenced

20th Aug 1969 Abbey Rd recording finished

12th Sept 1969 Lennon decides to leave

20th Sept 1969  Lennon reveals he is leaving

Is there any feeling that they might have known especially as Paul put The End on (almost) the end?

I don’t think they knew it was the end but i think they knew it was ending.

Was listening to ‘You Never Give Me Your Money ‘ a few days back and the line

Oh, that magic feeling,
Nowhere to go.

reminded of John saying it had gotten boring as they knew each other far too well and each knew where the other was going. A very special connection but it had left at least John bored (and he said that in 1975).

And then you listen to the rest of the lyrics to ‘YNGMYM’ and its a song that goes from the frustrations of business and never seeing the money along with endless business meetings with negotiations that never settle to getting out and away from it all – which is what they wanted in the end.

One sweet dream
Pick up the bags and get in the limousine
Soon we’ll be away from here
Step on the gas and wipe that tear away
One sweet dream came true today

But its not how it works out as it fades with the pseudo-nursery rhyme fantasy.

Maybe i’m reading far too much into it.
