OfflineSimilar to a previous querie, I have always been intrigued by those people in the background of the Abbey Road Album cover, and of course, subsequent Abbey Road posters, badges etc., The man next to the policevan on the right, and the three people near to the gatepost on the left. Has anybody ever discovered who these people were, and what brought them to be in that spot on that day? Where are they now? They must be the only human beings non Beatle, to appear on a Beatles album cover! I cannot tell how many are in the police van???
The man on the right was Paul Cole, an American tourist who died not so long ago. For years he didn't even know he was on the Abbey Road cover until he happened to spot a copy on his turntable – his wife was learning to play Something. It's a very sweet story.

Some of the others are detailed in this thread: http://www.beatlelinks.net/for…..stcount=13

OfflineInteresting stories, but I guess the debate could go on for ever, with many people claiming to be the one's in the photo. On the left hand side, just infront of the parked car, next to the white overalled trio, is a man preparing to cross the road. Further down Abbey Road, next to the seventh car on the right are a couple walking towards the camera. There are two policemen in the front seats of the van. Its not so easy to see on the CD cover, but I have been looking at a giant poster of Abbey Road… and of course, the letters on the Volkswagon beetle stand for Lets Make War!!!
Or if you believe the Paul Is Dead rumours, "LMW 28IF" stands for "Linda McCartney weeps" and that Paul would have been 28 if he'd survived (he'd actually have been 27). More: http://www.beatlesbible.com/fe…..is-dead/4/
Abbey Road is album of the month for February. I need to get writing!

OfflineThe car imfront of the white beetle looks rather dirty on the giant poster, which may suggest that it belomgs to somebody involved in the work at the property where the three overalled people are!!!
The fact that the photographer was up a ladder, begs the question, at what point would the car approaching the crossing on the right hand side, (in fact, there's a train of vehicles coming our way) have been stopped???
Here's a pic I'd never seen before: http://www.thebeatles.com/#/im….._08_1969_4
It was apparently taken on the same day as the Abbey Road shot. Outside the studio is a group of people – it doesn't look like The Beatles but I suppose the photo could have been taken by Iain Macmillan before the shoot began at 10am. It looks like it's from the exact same spot that the Abbey Road pic was taken, so I presume it was from up IM's ladder. The cars are all different, though, so it was probably some time before (or maybe after).
On an unrelated note, my wife just got back from our local pub where she ate what was listed on the menu as "Wild Honey Pie" – she described it as "a vegetarian thing made up of rice, peppers and… stuff".

That's an interesting shot. How drab it looks in black & white!
And why didn't you go down the pub with your wife? Are you feeling unwell
Phew. Finished the Abbey Road piece: http://www.beatlesbible.com/al…..bbey-road/
If there are any errors that need correcting, or if I've missed anything major out, please leave a comment at the foot of the article. It's quite a long piece and I still have a muddled head, so there's bound to be something I've missed.

No! It stands for "Linda McCartney Weeps" because her husband is dead!

OfflineI found this article today (oh boy). It goes into detail about not only the photo that was used, but the 5 shots that were not.
Pretty intersting…
