Paul McCartney live at the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles

9.00pm, Wednesday 31 March 2010 (4 years ago)

Sir Paul McCartney performed the second of two shows at the Hollywood Bowl, Los Angeles, as part of his Up And Coming Tour.

The Beatles performed three triumphant shows at the venue in 1964 and 1965, which were recorded by Capitol Records. Highlights from the recordings were released in 1977 as The Beatles At The Hollywood Bowl.

The setlist was mostly similar to the previous night‘s, although some changes were made: Drive My Car replaced Got To Get You Into My Life; Let ‘Em In was performed instead of (I Want To) Come Home; I’ve Just Seen A Face was played instead of I’m Looking Through You; and Two Of Us was replaced by And I Love Her.

It was a magical night. For one week prior, the forecasters told us it was going to rain heavily, but by late afternoon, all the clouds disappeared and we enjoyed a clear, chilly night at the resplendent Hollywood Bowl. Paul even complained, “It doesn’t half get cold here!”

Paul and the band sounded perfect. The addition of And I Love Her to the set was welcomed by the *entire* audience singing along for the first time all evening. (Before that, it was just us die-hards.) The next time we had a group sing was Obla-di Obla-da… a lively, ska-influenced version.

After the final encore, Paul told us, “See you next time.” I hope he returns to the Bowl, because it’s a perfect venue.
