The Beatles completed their work on the promo clip for ‘Penny Lane’ on this day. It was a second part of a two-day shoot, which had begun two days previously.
The shoot took place at Knole Park in Sevenoaks, Kent, where they had made the ‘Strawberry Fields Forever’ promo on 30 and 31 January 1967.
On this day The Beatles were filmed in two sequences. Firstly they rode white horses through an archway in a ruined wall, turning to the right. Then they sat at a dinner table laid out with candelabras and lace cloth, where they were served with their musical instruments by Mal Evans. In the clip John Lennon demonstrated his displeasure by overturning the table.
The temperature was bitterly cold on this February day, but a crowd of onlookers including pupils from a local school stayed to watch the filming.
In the evening Micky Dolenz of The Monkees and the group’s road manager Ric Klein visited Paul McCartney’s house in Cavendish Avenue, London.

Any idea where the Fabs stayed whilst in Sevenoaks and where did JL buy the Mr Kite poster.

John purchased the Mr. Kite poster on January 31st, while filming the video for Strawberry Fields Forever, not on this date. I believe it was Mark Lewisohn who postulated that it was at Andrew Mair’s Antique Shop at 44a High Street in Sevenoaks.
They don’t all ride white horses. George rides a dark brown horse (note that he founded Dark Horse Records in 1974). Paul’s horse looks more dapple gray than white.
