Recording for When I’m Sixty-Four was completed on this night, with the overdub of a clarinet part scored by George Martin.
Three separate sessions took place, the first from 7-9pm. The clarinetists were Robert Burns, Henry MacKenzie and Frank Reidy, one of whom played a bass clarinet.
In the control room of Studio Two from 9-10pm three mono mixes of When I’m Sixty-Four were made. The last of these was judged to be the best, although it was not included on the Sgt Pepper’s Lonely Hearts Club Band album.
The night’s work was complete with more work on Strawberry Fields Forever. John Lennon re-recorded his lead vocals onto track three, accompanied by snare drum and occasional piano. This was done between 10pm and 11.45pm.
