Mixing: I Want To Hold Your Hand

2.30pm, Monday 7 November 1966 (47 years ago)

Studio One (control room), EMI Studios, Abbey Road
Producer: George Martin
Engineer: Geoff Emerick

This was the second of four mixing sessions to prepare stereo versions of The Beatles’ songs ahead of the UK release of the A Collection Of Beatles Oldies compilation on 9 December 1966.

During a three hour session George Martin oversaw the creation of a single stereo mix of I Want To Hold Your Hand. This was labelled take one, although two previous stereo mixes had been made on 21 October 1963 and 8 June 1965.

Martin had intended to spend the day working on I Want To Hold Your Hand, She Loves You and From Me To You. She Loves You was held over until the following day, and From Me To You was not remixed for the album.
