The Beatles live: Globe Cinema, Stockton-on-Tees

This was The Beatles’ second and final visit to Stockton-on-Tees. They had previously played there on 22 November 1963, the day their With The Beatles LP was released.

This was the sixth date of their 1964 British tour. They performed two shows, at 6.15pm and 8.30pm. The support acts on the tour were The Rustiks, Sounds Incorporated, Michael Haslam, The Remo Four, Tommy Quickly and Mary Wells. The compère was Bob Bain.

The Beatles’ set throughout the tour contained 10 songs: ‘Twist And Shout’, ‘Money (That’s What I Want)’, ‘Can’t Buy Me Love’, ‘Things We Said Today’, ‘I’m Happy Just To Dance With You’, ‘I Should Have Known Better’, ‘If I Fell’, ‘I Wanna Be Your Man’, ‘A Hard Day’s Night’ and ‘Long Tall Sally’.

Thursday 15 October was a General Election day in the UK; Harold Wilson’s Labour party won, bringing to an end 13 years of Conservative rule.

Prior to the first concert, The Beatles were interviewed in their hotel room by a Tyne Tees Television news crew about their voting intentions. The interview was broadcast on North-East Newsview on ITV the following day from 6.35pm.
