Ringo Starr began his 10-day stay at University College Hospital, London on this day. He was booked in to have his tonsils removed, an operation which took place the following day.

Prior to his arrival on the ward, Starr gave a brief press conference to assembled reporters.

Ringo Starr is interviewed by Melody Maker

Two days before he had his tonsils removed at University College Hospital, London, Ringo Starr gave an interview to music paper Melody Maker to discuss the operation.

At the paper's office Starr also saw the weekly singles charts being compiled, with The Beatles' I Feel Fine at the number one position.
