This was The Beatles’ only live appearance anywhere in the county of Oxfordshire. It was arranged by John Smith, a London-based promoter.

Live: Ritz Ballroom, Birmingham

The Beatles’ only appearance at Birmingham’s Ritz Ballroom should have taken place on 11 January 1963. However, it was postponed due to blizzards making the roads impassable.

Live: Majestic Ballroom, Hull

This was The Beatles’ second live show at Hull’s Majestic Ballroom. The first had taken place on 20 October 1962. They played in the city on two subsequent occasions, in November 1963 and October 1964.

This was the last performance by The Beatles on this first part of their UK tour with Helen Shapiro. They were replaced on the 10 February show in Peterborough by Peter Jay and the Jaywalkers.

The Beatles’ tour with Helen Shapiro received some newspaper publicity following an incident on this night in which the group, Kenny Lynch and Shapiro were barred from the Carlisle Golf Club dance at the Crown and Mitre hotel.

The Beatles’ UK tour with Helen Shapiro continued into Wakefield, Yorkshire, with a performance at the city’s ABC Cinema.

The Beatles’ tour with Helen Shapiro had begun on 2 February 1963, but the group gave two standalone performances at the Cavern Club between that date and 5 February, when the tour resumed at Doncaster’s Gaumont Cinema.
