Radio: Pop Go The Beatles
On 30 April 1963 a BBC studio manager, Vernon Lawrence, suggested to his manager, assistant department head Donald MacLean, that The Beatles be given their own radio series. MacLean approved the idea, with four programmes commissioned and the option for a further 11 if successful.

This was The Beatles' only performance in the Norfolk city of Norwich. The concert was booked in April 1963 by local promoters Peter Holmes, Ray Aldous and Geoffrey Walker for a fee of £250.

The Beatles made their second appearance on national BBC television, on the children's show Pops And Lenny.

The Beatles topped the bill on the ABC Television programme Thank Your Lucky Stars on this day. It was filmed at the Alpha Television Studios in Birmingham, England.

The Beatles returned to Liverpool from their respective holidays on 9 May 1963, and two days later performed their first concert since 27 April.
John Lennon and Brian Epstein holiday in Barcelona, Spain
On this day Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr went on holiday to Santa Cruz, Tenerife, for a 12-day holiday. At the same time John Lennon accepted an offer from Brian Epstein to accompany him to Barcelona, for a trip also lasting 12 days.
