Live: Granada Cinema, Walthamstow, London

Day six of their UK tour with Roy Orbison, and The Beatles performed at the Granada Cinema in Walthamstow, London. The concert took place shortly after the recording of the first Pop Go The Beatles programme for the BBC.

Radio: Pop Go The Beatles

On 30 April 1963 a BBC studio manager, Vernon Lawrence, suggested to his manager, assistant department head Donald MacLean, that The Beatles be given their own radio series. MacLean approved the idea, with four programmes commissioned and the option for a further 11 if successful.

Live: Gaumont Cinema, Ipswich

Following a one-day break, the Roy Orbison tour resumed on this day with a concert at the Gaumont Cinema, Ipswich, Suffolk.

The third date of The Beatles' tour with Roy Orbison took place at the Gaumont Cinema in Southampton. Also on the bill were Gerry and the Pacemakers, David Macbeth, Louise Cordet, Tony Marsh, Terry Young Six, Erkey Grant and Ian Crawford.

This was The Beatles' second and final appearance at the Gaumont in Stoke-on-Trent, following their appearance on the Helen Shapiro tour on 3 March 1963.

Live: Grosvenor Rooms, Norwich

This was The Beatles' only performance in the Norfolk city of Norwich. The concert was booked in April 1963 by local promoters Peter Holmes, Ray Aldous and Geoffrey Walker for a fee of £250.

Television: Pops And Lenny

The Beatles made their second appearance on national BBC television, on the children's show Pops And Lenny.

Live: Rink Ballroom, Sunderland

This was The Beatles' only concert appearance at Sunderland's Rink Ballroom, although they performed in the city's Empire Theatre on two other occasions: 9 February and 30 November 1963.

Television: Thank Your Lucky Stars

The Beatles topped the bill on the ABC Television programme Thank Your Lucky Stars on this day. It was filmed at the Alpha Television Studios in Birmingham, England.

Live: Imperial Ballroom, Nelson

The Beatles returned to Liverpool from their respective holidays on 9 May 1963, and two days later performed their first concert since 27 April.

John Lennon and Brian Epstein holiday in Barcelona, Spain

On this day Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr went on holiday to Santa Cruz, Tenerife, for a 12-day holiday. At the same time John Lennon accepted an offer from Brian Epstein to accompany him to Barcelona, for a trip also lasting 12 days.

This was the fourth of The Beatles' six concert appearances at this venue in Northwich, Cheshire. The support acts were Denny Curtis and the Renegades, and The Cruisers with Karl Terry.

Live: Music Hall, Shrewsbury

This was The Beatles' second and final performance at the Music Hall in Shrewsbury, Shropshire. As with their 14 December 1962 show, it was promoted by Lewis Buckley.

Live: Mersey Beat Showcase, Croydon

The fourth Mersey Beat Showcase event, starring artists from Brian Epstein's management stable, took place on this evening at the Fairfield Hall ballroom in Croydon, Surrey.
