The Beatles made a personal appearance at Brian Epstein‘s central Liverpool record store, NEMS, prior to an evening concert in Mold, Wales.

They signed copies of the recently-released Please Please Me single, and gave a brief acoustic performance at the foot of the store’s staircase.

John Lennon and George Harrison played acoustic guitars, whereas Paul McCartney used his Hofner bass guitar without an amplifier. Ringo Starr had to make do with a solitary snare drum.

Unfortunately no recording of the performance is known to exist.
