By December 1962 The Beatles' career in the UK was definitely on the up. Their debut single Love Me Do had charted well; they had recorded a follow-up, Please Please Me; and Brian Epstein's management gave them a professionalism they had lacked for so long.
It was somewhat reluctantly, therefore, that on 18 December the group left England for their fifth and final residency in a Hamburg club.
They returned once more to the Star-Club, for a fee of DM750 (£67) per person each week, and stayed until 31 December. Their only day off was Christmas Day.
