The Beatles live: Club Django, Queen’s Hotel, Southport

This was The Beatles’ only live appearance at Club Django, a music venue at the Queen’s Hotel in Southport, Lancashire.

The club was situated on the ground floor of the hotel. Although the venue normally only hosted jazz groups, the management knew The Beatles were becoming more popular and able to draw audiences outside Liverpool, so they seized the opportunity to book them to play.

The Beatles were supported by local act The Diplomats, a quartet which had formed earlier in 1962.

The Queen’s Hotel stood on Southport’s Promenade. The building fell into disrepair in later years, but was converted to residential housing and renamed Queen’s Hotel Court.
