The Beatles live: Hulme Hall, Port Sunlight

The Beatles played four shows at Hulme Hall on Bolton Road in Port Sunlight near Birkenhead. This was the fourth date, and was promoted by the local Recreations Association.

Before taking to the stage, at 8.45pm, the group recorded a radio interview for the closed circuit radio stations at Cleaver and Clatterbridge hospitals. They were asked questions by Monty Lister, Malcolm Threadgill and Peter Smethurst, and the interview was first broadcast on the hospital radio stations on Lister’s regular show Sunday Spin.

The capacity for Hulme Hall was 450 but, due to the popularity of The Beatles, it was unofficially enlarged to 500 when they performed. The other dates they played at the venue were 7 July, 18 August and 6 October 1962.
