John Lennon was given £100 ahead of his 21st birthday on 9 October 1961. He and Paul McCartney decided to travel to Spain for a holiday. In the end they went no further than Paris.

This was The Beatles’ 17th show at Litherland Town Hall, which had been the scene of their triumphant homecoming performance on 27 December 1960, following their first trip to Hamburg.

This was The Beatles’ 16th performance at the Casbah Coffee Club in Liverpool’s Hayman Green. The venue was owned by drummer Pete Best‘s mother Mona.

This was The Beatles’ first performance at the Village Hall on East Prestcot Road, Knotty Ash, Liverpool. It followed an appearance at the Grosvenor Ballroom in Liscard, Wallasey earlier that evening.
